Sandy DSandy Docherty

Sandy Docherty is a cook and baker who is best known for her role as one of the contestants on BBC’s hugely successful The Great British Bake Off 2015 and New Year’s 2018 with viewing figures in excess of 12 million.

Since the show Sandy has being touring the country doing cooking demonstrations at a variety of shows as well as launching her campaign Baking Down Barriers and writing her first book “Baking Down Barriers”.

Known for her bubbly personality and down to earth approach, Sandy spends her days working as a School Safeguarding and Welfare Officer, managing a pastoral support unit. Her role sees her building positive relationships with clients and young people from diverse social and cultural backgrounds. It’s this experience that gave her the inspiration to launch the campaign “Baking Down Barriers” that combines people’s love of baking and cooking with issues such as illness, depression, isolation
thus leading to good mental health.

Since the launch of the website www.bakingdownbarriers.co.uk, Sandy has continued to educate and engage with her audience through social media, touring the country and working with enthusiastic cooks and bakers. “I love the opportunity to share my passion with the public, baking and cooking has a universal language. It can say, I care, it can say welcome, I’m sorry or just I’ve made plenty” Sandy believes that cooking and baking can cross the divide between generations which “has to be a good thing?”

Sandy’s first book, Sandy D Bakes, Baking down Barriers is available from contacting Sandy direct. She is currently working with Scratching Shed Publications on her second book due out in the Summer of 2021

Sandy is an excellent speaker on baking and food topics and is passionate that her time on the show and cooking and baking skills can benefit others.
